Saving Lives Together – Maple Hope Foundation Donates Another 25 MOVES® SLC™ Life Support Systems “Medical Javelins” to Aid in the Treatment of Severely Injured Ukrainians

December 16, 2024

Kyiv, Ukraine ― Maple Hope Foundation is delivering 25 additional MOVES® SLC™ life support systems in Kyiv for immediate use in Ukraine, bringing their total donation to 105 critical care systems.

The medical equipment was donated to Maple Hope Foundation by the Government of Canada and the deployment was made possible through the generosity of Maple Hope Foundation donors and partners including Kazka Entertainment and Mad Heads. As part of the deployment of the additional medical technology to Ukraine, Thornhill Medical is contributing three days of expert training to the system users which include critical care physicians and anesthesiologists.

Developed by the Canadian company Thornhill Medical, MOVES® SLC™ is the world’s only micro-integrated portable life support system, encompassing most of the treatments and monitoring typically provided in an intensive care unit.
Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Maple Hope Foundation has donated 80 MOVES® SLC™ systems to Ukraine and organized expert training sessions for users. Since May 2022, these systems have been used by various medical personnel, ranging from combat medics to rescuers on evacuation trains.

Maple Hope Foundation has donated more than 100 of the rugged, mobile life support systems to medical teams in Ukraine.

As part of this third aid package, Maple Hope Foundation and Thornhill Medical will again conduct expert training, with more than 50 military medics participating from December 15 to 17, 2024.

The technical maintenance of the devices and transportation costs for MOVES® SLC™ systems have been supported by Canadian charity events organized by Vadym Krasnoohyi, the frontman of the band “Mad Heads,” in partnership with Kazka Entertainment.

“Together with Maple Hope Foundation, we are saving the lives of our defenders. The innovative MOVES® SLC™ life support systems have become an indispensable tool for military medics, enabling them to provide high-quality care in extreme conditions. MOVES® SLC™ not only helps save the lives of the wounded but also preserves the hearts and souls of those who bring them back to life. These technologies have become a symbol of hope, resilience, and indomitability for us.”

“The Maple Hope Foundation is proud to announce the delivery of 25 MOVES® SLC™ units, generously donated by the Public Health Agency of Canada, to the front lines in Ukraine. These advanced, portable life support systems are now in the hands of Ukrainian defenders as they continue to protect their country's freedom against Russian occupation. As part of this critical initiative, the Maple Hope Foundation, with support from Thornhill Medical, organized specialized training to ensure Ukrainian physicians can effectively operate these unique, micro-integrated, mission-ready systems. This training is an essential component of the donation, empowering medical teams to optimize casualty care during evacuations and ultimately save lives. The Maple Hope Foundation remains committed to supporting Ukraine with innovative medical solutions during this challenging time.”

Lesley Gouldie, President and CEO of Thornhill Medical

“We are committed to supporting our non-government organizations in donating our medical technology and training capabilities to Ukraine. We are particularly pleased to again be supporting Ukraine through the work of Maple Hope Foundation and to provide hands-on training in the use of MOVES® SLC™ life support systems for Ukrainian military and civilian medical workers on the front lines as they treat and save the lives of Ukrainians.”

"It is very symbolic that my most famous song ‘HOPE IS HERE’ resonates with the name of the charity fund – Maple Hope Foundation. This year, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Maple Hope Foundation – a group of bright people who tirelessly support Ukraine for over 10 years. Together with KAZKA ENTERTAINMENT, we held a large Canadian tour, ‘HOPE IS HERE,’ with 17 concerts across Canada. The concerts were charity events, and we managed to raise over $40,000 for the transportation of 'medical javelins' to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. I am very grateful to everyone who attended these concerts and contributed to this support. Now the much-needed medical equipment is arriving in Ukraine. I am glad I could be part of such an important and necessary cause.”

Vadym Horenyuk, Founder of Kazka Entertainment

"We live in a peaceful country. We don’t hear daily air raid sirens or hide from missile strikes in shelters. We have all the conditions that our brothers and sisters in Ukraine do not have. We, Ukrainians abroad, are obliged to help our homeland. Each and every one of us, without exception."

MOVES® SLC™ systems, or “medical javelins,” are specially developed for providing urgent medical assistance to the wounded in combat conditions, requiring quick medical care and transportation to medical facilities. These unique life support systems received the “medical javelin” name from military medics in Ukraine. Weighing only 18 kg and carried like a shoulder bag, the device integrates an oxygen concentrator, a unique lung ventilation system that preserves oxygen, aspiration, and full monitoring of vital signs, all within a sturdy, portable system powered by batteries and without heavy, dangerous oxygen cylinders. This equipment is used by emergency medical services, military personnel, medical teams, and disaster response services and has been purchased by the armed forces of the USA, Canada, Australia, and other countries.
